Every construction hoist should have a preventive maintenance program. The program should specify the inspection and testing frequency of relevant components, taking into account the manufacturer’s instructions, the age of the hoist, and its usage history.
For the preventive maintenance system to be fully effective, it is essential to keep comprehensive records of daily inspections, interim inspections, fault reports, maintenance worksheets (including details of parts replacement), and detailed inspection reports. These records should be stored in a separate machine history file that is maintained throughout the equipment’s lifespan.
Maintenance of construction hoists should only be performed by individuals who are deemed competent and possess the necessary training and knowledge to carry out the task. Authorized personnel should be selected through a formally documented assessment process, and any gaps in knowledge or skills should be addressed through formal or on-the-job training.
